The gut-pounding exhaust pulses from the 1000-plus-horsepower V-8s are as much a part of the monster truck culture and experience as jumping schoolbuses and crushing wrecked cars. But Bigfoot 4x4, the originator of the monster truck genre, is breaking tradition by building the world's first all-electric Bigfoot monster truck.

Built in conjunction with EnerSys, a sponsor of the 2012 Bigfoot team, the #20 eBigfoot is powered by a high-power electric motor getting its juice from 30 Odyssey batteries delivering a total of 360 volts. Six additional Odyssey batteries power the brake and steering systems. The truck includes on on-board battery charger and a variable-speed programmable speed controller.

The unique powertrain was built by noted electric drag racer Dennis Berube, who has run under 8 seconds in his Current Eliminator electric dragster at more than 160 mph. Berube has also raced an electric Chevrolet S-10 pickup.

We're not sure how fans will respond to a silent Bigfoot, but if the torquey electric motors can get the truck to pop wheelies and crush cars as well as an explosive big-block V-8, it could become a crowd favorite.
