As one of the most prestigious names in travel trailers, it was only natural that Airstream would create a concept that drew inspiration and design cues from the even more rarified world of luxury yachts. The latest concept from the iconic travel trailer company comes in the form of the Airstream Land Yacht, a collaboration between the Jackson Center, Ohio-based company and Italian cabinetry maker Tecnoform S.p.A.
The interior was designed my renowned yacht cabin designer Mauro Micheli, a long-time designer for Riva Yachts. The 28-foot trailer has a sleeping capacity of five adults, with a front bedroom, mid-ship bathroom, and rear social area, and features a galley that can be hidden when not in use. The Land Yacht also features underbed storage, and three powered awnings on the exterior.
Premium materials were utilized for the concept, including high-luster teak, white wood inlay boat-deck flooring, LED panel lighting, Corian solid surfaces, and Ultraleather upholstery. The Land Yacht concept is also a tribute to Airstream founder Wally Byam's love of boats, which culminated in the building of Byam's personal yacht dubbed Caravan, which he had built in his later years with the intent of sailing around the world. Byam saw the finished product, but was unable to fulfill his wish of a worldwide nautical journey.
