Heard this one before? Ford's 1.6-liter EcoBoost engine is once again causing headaches for Dearborn, with more than 70,000 Escape models equipped with the engine subject to the latest voluntary recall. 2013 Escapes with the 1.6-liter EcoBoost have already been the subject of three recalls since its introduction, including for fuel leaks and engine fires.

Engine overheating is once again the subject of the latest recall, with owners reporting warning messages appearing in the vehicle information display and some reports of engine fires. Owners of affected models should contact their dealer immediately. Ford will cover costs related to overheating-related transportation.

Approximately 73,320 Escape SUVs as well as 15,833 Fusion sedans are affected by the recall. Affected vehicles can be identified by an "X" in the eighth character of the vehicle identification number in Escape models and an "R" in Fusion models. U.S. customers should call 866/436-7332, and Canadian customers 888/222-7814. Owners can also log in to Ford.com, click on the "Support" tab, select "View Notices and Recalls" and enter their vehicle's VIN to see if it is subject to the recall.

As with the prior three recalls, only models with the 1.6-liter EcoBoost engine are affected. The 2.0-liter and 2.5-liter models are not affected.
