Hot on the heels of yesterday's announcement of the unveiling of Honda's Urban SUV Concept at the 2013 Detroit show comes news that Honda's uptown cousin brand will be showing a new SUV. We've already captured the 2014 MDX out and about testing, but this announcement confirms it's not far from hitting the road in production form.

As we've learned, when Honda uses the terms "concept" or "prototype," more often than not it means "tone down the trim and finish a tad, and this is what you're going to see in the showroom in 6-12 months." From what we've seen so far from spy photos, as well as the just-released conceptual rendering, the 2014 MDX will borrow cues from the new RLX flagship sedan and its little brother, the two-row RDX. Acura is calling the new look Aero Sculpture design.

Expect the new MDX to borrow some of the RLX's new driveline tech, including a new direct-injected V-6 engine and hybrid powertrain, either standard or optional. Based on the spy photos we've seen, we also expect the 2014 MDX to get the RLX's LED headlights, at least as an option.

The MDX has long been one of Acura's best-selling models, and the planned enhancements to improve performance and efficiency should continue to make it a hit with customers.
