Volvo Trucks has gotten really creative in trying to highlight its new Dynamic Steering technology, first by showing a hamster drive a truck up a crazy mountain road, and now by featuring martial artist and action star Jean Claude Van Damme in its newest spot.
Known for performing super-human splits, "The Muscles from Brussels" steps it up in this new commercial for what he even calls his most epic split ever. The video doesn't seem too crazy at first, as it slowly zooms out from Van Damme’s face, but once the camera pulls out, we see that he's standing on top of the side view mirrors of two Volvo trucks driving in reverse. He says his legs are "engineered to defy the law of physics," and we really get a sense of what that means when the trucks slowly begin to move away from each other, spreading the martial artist's legs apart until he looks like an upside down capital 'T,' with his legs spread into a perfectly horizontal line in between the trucks. All the while, Van Damme coolly keeps his arms crossed in front of his chest.
This stunt was set up to demonstrate the precision and directional stability of Volvo Dynamic Steering, which apparently makes the new Volvo FM easier to drive. Volvo says that this spot was filmed all in one take, and although we want to wince in pain every time we see it, we can't get enough of it.
