In what could be the first recall of a 2014 vehicle, the NHTSA announced that certain 2014 model-year Subaru Foresters are being recalled. The vehicles affected were manufactured from January through March, 2013, a total of 10,137 2014 Foresters. The problem is with the vehicles' carpeted floor mats, more specifically with the mats' backing, which wasn't manufactured to specification.

The result could be that the mats could curl when exposed to heat, which could interfere when the driver tries to step on the brake or accelerator pedals. That could make it difficult to stop the vehicle, which could lead to a crash. By the end of April, Subaru will start to notify owners, and dealers will replace the four mats with new ones, free of charge.

If owners have any questions, they can call Subaru at 1-800/782-2783. Subaru's recall campaign number is WQH-44.
