Ford may have just rolled out the F-150 Tremor, but Ram wasted no time in countering with a compelling bang-for-the-buck proposition of its own. Folks, meet the Ram 1500 Black Express. There's nothing crazy or fancy about the Black Express, just some sporty styling cues and details backed up by 395 hp and 410 lb-ft of 5.7-liter Hemi power. Being a value-oriented trim, the Express has the six-speed automatic for the time being.
Unlike the F-150 Tremor, which comes exclusively in the regular-cab, short-bed configuration, the Black Express is available in regular, Quad Cab, and Crew Cab configurations, and the buyer's choice of two or four-wheel drive.
As its name implies, the Black Express' dominant exterior hue is black. The front fascia, grille surround, grille insert, and rear bumper all get the blackout treatment, as well as the 20-inch alloy wheels. As for lighting, the Black Express gets projector-beam front headlights with LED driving/turn signal lights, side markers, and red LED taillights.
Interior trim is black and diesel gray with carpeting or heavy-duty vinyl flooring, and a 40/20/40 front split bench on the Crew and Quad Cab models. Also included on the Black Express is Chrysler's excellent 5-inch touchscreen headunit, and powered 1.5-amp USB inputs.
Of course, if black isn't your bag, the Ram 1500 Express is offered in 11 other colors. But we've saved the best part for last. The 1500 Black Express starts at just $28,090 for the regular-cab model, including destination. Not bad for nearly 400 horses.
