Spied! 2014 Toyota Tundra, Week Before Official Reveal

More Efficient Powetrains, More Aggressive Styling Expected

A few days ago, Toyota announced the 2014 Tundra would be shown at the 2013 Chicago Auto Show. The full-size truck segment is again abuzz with activity following the reveal of the 2014 Chevrolet Silverado and the Ford Atlas Concept at the Detroit show, previewing what many believe will be the 2015 Ford F-150.

Now, just a week before its official reveal, we came across these spy shots of the 2014 Toyota Tundra. The slab-sided black cladding doesn't reveal much, with the only major clue coming in the front, with what looks to be a larger, lower front grille with a more angular shape, flanked by headlamps that protrude outward slightly. When the Tacoma got a face-lift for the 2012 model year, it adopted a modified hexagonal grille opening, and it appears the next Tundra may follow suit.

With tougher CAFE standards looming, as well as intense competition from the Detroit Three, we expect any powertrain updates or revisions to focus primarily on improving fuel economy, with direct-injection and/or eight-speed transmissions being offered on one or all of the 2014 Tundra's powertrain configurations.
