Chrysler has revealed its revised November 2009 North American five-year product plan and extended it to include the 2016 calendar year. While the automaker has dropped plans to add two Fiat-produced models each to the Chrysler and Dodge brands this year, Fiat will add eight new models and Alfa Romeo will finally return to the U.S. market with six new models by 2016.
Here are Chrysler's revised product plans for each of its Dodge/Jeep/Ram North American brands:
Dodge: While the Fiat-produced 2013 Dodge Dart was introduced last year, two Fiat-produced cars scheduled to arrive this year have been dropped. Refreshes of three existing models have been added to the plan, with one refresh due this year and the other two next year. Initial plans to refresh an existing model in 2015 as well as add two new Chrysler-produced vehicles, in 2015 and 2016, are unchanged.
Jeep: The 2014 Compass and 2014 Grand Cherokee refreshes and an all-new 2014 Liberty arrive this year, one year behind the original plan. A Fiat-based small Jeep, delayed one year, arrives in 2014. Jeep will introduce two new products in 2015, including one model originally due in 2013, which could be the long-rumored seven-passenger Grand Wagoneer. Expect to see two new and one refreshed Jeep in 2016.
Ram: The 2013 Ram 1500 was introduced last year, and the Ram Heavy Duty and Chassis cabs will follow this year along with another new model. All four vehicles were delayed one year. A Fiat-based Ram has been pushed back two years to 2014. That new model is likely a rebadged Fiat Doblo commercial van. An existing model will be refreshed in 2015, while two new models will arrive in 2016, one of which was pushed back three years.
SRT: The 2013 Viper released last year will get a refresh in 2015, while the refreshed 2014 Grand Cherokee SRT8 arrives this year.
Chrysler revealed recently that it recorded net income of $378 million in the fourth quarter of 2012. That's up from $225 million in the fourth quarter of 2011. As a result, Chrysler's full-year net income rose to $1.7 billion -- up from $183 million in 2011. The Motor City automaker produced 2.4 million vehicles this year and sold 2.2 million.
