I've been waiting since 1987 for an El Camino. I would buy a V8 Manual in a minute if it were available

It's a good idea ONLY if they offer the base Ute, not just the Ute SS.GM didn't just scrap the G8 ST because they axed Pontiac. They did it because the G8/G8 ST were based on the Commodore SS/Ute SS, the high end performance model. Nobody was willing to drop down that kind of change in 2008, it just didn't make sense. They need to offer the base version, not just because the economy still sucks, but because some people just want a cheap pickup. With the Ranger gone, there really aren't any compact pickups left for our market, a new El Camino (though technically a coupe utility and not a true truck) could potentially fill that niche. The trick would be to make it cheaper than the Colorado so that they don't create internal competition.
