We've known for a while that Chassis Cab and cutaway variants would be part of Ford's plan for the North American-spec 2014 Transit, but up until now, we've only seen renderings and CGI drafts. Now Ford is showing these beasts of burden in the metal.

Ford is leaving no stone unturned in offering dozens of different configurations for customers' varied needs. The Chassis Cab and cutaway will be offered in 138-, 156-, or 178-inch wheelbase lengths, with gross vehicle weight ratings of up to 10,360 pounds. For all intents and purposes, the Chassis Cab and cutaway models are functionally identical, except for the cutaway being open behind the cab for the fitment of a bus or shuttle body.

Equipped with the standard 3.7-liter V-6, the Transit will be offered with an available CNG/LPG upfit kit to allow for economical operation on the gaseous fuels. The 3.7-liter V-6 is also flex-fuel capable on E85. Buyers requiring more powertrain brawn will have the option of the 3.5-liter EcoBoost V-6 or 3.2-liter Power Stroke I-5 diesel.

Chassis Cab and cutaway models can also be equipped with a factory-installed towing package, and a prewire package to facilitate easier installation of upfitted lighting. The 2014 Transit is expected in showrooms in Fall 2013.
