The 2013 Ford Escape, one of the brand's best-selling models, has also been one of its most recall-prone, and Ford's latest recall disproportionately affects the popular compact SUV. Reuters reports that 5638 Escape models built between November 14-24 may have a faulty rear child lock. The recall also covers some Focus and C-Max models, but the Escape represents the majority of units involved in the recall. No accidents or injuries have been reported as a result of this issue.

The Problem: The rear-door child safety locks on the left rear door may not function properly when the driver tries to activate the function. The driver may assume the child locks are working correctly when they are not.

The Fix: Ford will inspect and replace the affected locks at no charge. A recall campaign number and start date has not yet been announced. Concerned owners can contact the NHTSA Vehicle Safety Hotline at 888-327-4236, or call Ford at 866/436-7332.

Number of Vehicles Potentially Affected: 5638 Escape models built between November 14-24, 2012. 1223 Focus and 283 C-Max models are also affected by this recall.
