With spy shots of the 2014 Acura MDX snapped recently, we knew the introduction of the new version of Acura's three-row premium crossover was coming soon. Today, the company confirmed the 2014 MDX would finally be revealed on March 27 at the 2013 New York International Auto Show.

A few key details have been confirmed, but Honda's upscale brand will keep us waiting for full specs until the official debut. Among the items confirmed are a new 3.5-liter direct-injected V-6, replacing the current 3.7-liter port-injected V-6. The new Earth Dreams DI V-6 makes 310 hp and 272 lb-ft in the recently introduced RLX sedan, so expect output figures in that range in the MDX.

For the first time on the MDX, a front-drive model will be offered in addition to Acura's signature Super Handling All-Wheel-Drive system, likely to improve Acura's CAFE ratings. The 2014 model will have a longer wheelbase for greater second-row room and third-row access. The Jewel Eye LED headlamps seen on the RLX will also be on the MDX.

Safety will be a major part of the new MDX's appeal, with a number of available electronic safety aids, including lane-keeping assist, adaptive cruise control, forward collision warning, and lane departure warning.
