Competing in the Dakar Rally is a once-in-a-lifetime dream for many racers -- a goal many aspire to, but only a select few achieve. Thanks to a partnership between SCORE and ASO, drivers participating in one of five SCORE races will have the chance at a free entry into the 2014 Dakar Rally.
The fastest car/truck and motorcycle/ATV racer in the 2013 Dakar Challenge series will get free entry into the 2014 Dakar Rally from combined finishes at the Tecate SCORE Baja 500 on May 30 and the Eldorado HDRA Reno 500 on July 12. Eligibility and participation are open to all SCORE classes except 1/2-1600 and 5/1600 classes and drivers who have previously competed in Dakar, even as non-driver support staff.
But the Dakar Challenge series is not limited only to North American events. Races in Africa and Australia also count toward eligibility in the challenge. The Dakar Challenge Series events are listed below:
Dakar Challenge USA 1 - Tecate SCORE Baja 500 - May 31-June 2, 2013
Desafio Ruta 40 - Dakar Series - June 15-22, 2013
Toyota Kalahari Botswana 1000 Desert Race - June 20-23, 2013
Dakar Challenge USA 2 - Eldorado HDRA Reno 500 - July 12-14, 2013
Australasian Safari - September 20-27, 2013
Originally raced between Paris, France, and Dakar, the capital of the West African nation of Senegal, the race relocated to South America in 2009 after 30 years due to international security concerns along the race route.
