The Mercedes-Benz G-Wagen has always been an exclusive machine, and its slab-sided styling and thirsty, powerful engines aren't for everyone. But few other SUVs have the cachet, rarity, and status as the G-Class. This holds true the world over, and to highlight the G-Class' exclusivity and cachet in Japan, Mercedes-Benz is building 100 examples of the Night Edition G550 exclusively for the Japanese market.
The Night Edition Package includes titanium gray painted 18-inch wheels and AMG-designed fender flares on the outside, but the bigger changes are in the interior. Buyers willing to shell out the approximately $139,895 for the Night Edition get their choice of red or white porcelain leather upholstery, Designo piano-black wood trim, an anthracite Alcantara headliner, a leather-trimmed dashboard, and black Designo floormats.
Of the 100 units of the Night Edition planned, 60 are slated to receive the porcelain white interior trim, and 40 will get the red leather. Adding more exclusivity to the Night Edition is its left-hand-drive-only configuration, a sign of exclusivity in Japan, where the predominant configuration is right-hand drive. No other major mechanical changes from the standard G550 were announced.
