It isn’t often you find a Toyota FJ that hasn’t been modified -- usually with an engine/transmission swap, lifted suspension, and big wheels and tires. So when we spotted this gem on eBay, we tried to figure out a way to make this the newest (and oldest) member of Truck Trend’s long-term fleet.
This 1978 FJ45 Land Cruiser has only 53,000 miles on it and underwent a frame-off restoration less than a year ago. It was stored in the garage since new, and the owner says it has zero rust issues and “runs like a top.” It even comes with the original manual, title, and insurance card from 1978.
It still has the stock 2F inline-six and four-speed manual. The FJ was repainted in the original Rustic Green, the frame was painted, there are new turn signals, OE bumper, light covers, Toyota OE emblems, new rubber, exhaust, bushings, tie rod ends, shackles, shocks, and more, plus a Warn winch up front. There are new seats, and even the nuts and bolts are new -- all made of stainless steel.
Unfortunately, we missed our chance to buy this amazing truck. But we’ll keep our eyes on eBay to see what other special trucks are going up for sale there.
