Big trucks have always held key roles in the "Transformers" series, with Optimus Prime being the best-known character. But there have been others such as Ironhide , Ultra Magnus, and the Decepticon's Megatron. "Transformers" director Michael Bay has teased a revival of an unknown truck character on his personal blog/website Michaelbay.com. The photo is a 2014 Freightliner Argosy, a new version of a cabover Class 8 truck sold by Freightliner since 2000.
Cabovers have traditionally not been very popular in North America since regulations changed in the 1980s allowing for longer overall lengths. Consequently, the Argosy was short-lived in the U.S. market, but continues to be sold in Australia and South Africa. Regardless of whether the 2014 Argosy is going to be sold in the U.S., we're loving the looks of the teaser leaked by Michael Bay. The truck features blue LED driving and marker lights and what appear to be full-LED headlights. Whether these items are production-intent or simply showbiz eye-candy, we don't know.
Speculation is running rampant whether the 2014 Argosy is going to be an Autobot or Decepticon. The menacing black, gray, and silver paint scheme on the teaser photo suggests he could be a new Nemesis Prime or Motormaster in the upcoming "Transformers 4" movie.
