Those of us who remember when the Berlin Wall was still standing and Arnold Schwarzenegger was still just an action hero might also remember the legendary Callaway C4 Corvettes from the 1980s and early 1990s. Before Chevrolet built the first-generation Corvette ZR-1, Callaway was turbocharging Chevrolet's fiberglass wonder, and quickly gained a reputation as one of the country's leading authorities on Corvette performance. While the company is still tuning Corvettes, and in fact has shown a handsome rendering of a C7 shooting brake concept, it has broadened its horizons slightly, and now includes a full portfolio of performance parts and packages for General Motors trucks and SUVs. It has just announced that packages are in development for the 2014 Chevrolet Silverado
and GMC Sierra 1500 models equipped with the 5.3 and 6.2-liter EcoTec3 V-8 engines.
Performance estimates for the new engines with Callaway's supercharger packages are 450 hp for the 5.3-liter EcoTec3 V-8, and 540 hp for the 6.2. Additionally, Callaway says either engine will be offered in any of the Silverado and Sierra's bed and cab configurations.
Callaway currently offers performance upgrades for the GMT-900 SUVs, including the Chevrolet Tahoe, GMC Yukon, and Cadillac Escalade. Newly available this year from Callaway as stand-alone accessories are the company's Honker air intake and DD exhaust systems, which can be installed on vehicles at authorized Callaway dealers.
