The first hints of the Wrangler Dragon were revealed in concept form at the Beijing auto show in 2012, where it received a lot of positive feedback. Back then, it looked like it was ready to hit the showroom floor. It seems it was pretty close to becoming reality, as Jeep is going to sell the 2014 Wrangler Dragon Edition, a limited-production model, in North America this fall.

"When we introduced the Jeep Wrangler Dragon Design Concept last year, we received tremendously positive feedback," said Mike Manley, president and CEO, Jeep Brand, Chrysler Group LLC. "Our loyal Jeep enthusiasts asked us to build this unique Wrangler, and we are delivering exactly what they've asked for. The new 2014 Jeep Wrangler Dragon Edition boasts a stunning, unique, upscale design with styling cues that make it unlike any Wrangler ever seen before."

The Wrangler Dragon Edition stays true to the concept -- it's based on the Wrangler Sahara four-door Unlimited model and will be available only in black, with a three-piece black hard top to match. Adding to the exterior design are high-gloss Satin Bronze accents in the grille, headlights, and badges, plus Dark Charcoal dragon graphics that run along the driver-side door, across the hood, and on the spare tire cover. It rides on special matte black five-spoke 18-inch alloy wheels finished with a Satin Bronze outer rim. The Dragon Edition also gets a Mopar fuel filler door.

The color scheme continues in the cabin, where there are heated black Nappa leather seats, with a Satin Bronze "Dragon Scale" texture on the outer bolster surfaces; that texture is also on the center console armrest and the steering wheel. There are bronze accents inside as well -- there are bronze-painted spokes on the steering wheel, and the front passenger's dashboard grab handle is bronze with a black dragon graphic. There's also a dragon graphic overlay in the gauge cluster.

When the Dragon Edition goes on sale later this year, its MSRP will be $37,090 including destination.
