Motor Trend Channel contributor Justin Bell has ample experience driving high-performance cars, which usually are characterized by light weight and lightning-quick track reflexes. The Ford F-150 SVT Raptor has neither. In its element and context, however, the Raptor is a capable performer. Equipped with an infusion of an additional 160 hp and suspension enhancements, it gets even better. That's what Bell got behind the wheel of in this episode of World's Fastest Car Show in the form of the 2013 Ford Shelby SVT Raptor.
Although a pickup may seem an odd choice for Shelby to modify, the decision to break out of its conventional mold of tuned Mustangs has paid off handsomely for the company, with Raptors accounting for 30 percent of its current business. Bell describes the Shelby Raptor as being "surprisingly responsive," and says the combination of the wail of the Whipple supercharger and rumble of the Borla exhaust as "pretty manly." He admits that in a confined urban environment, it drives like a schoolbus. Unleashed in its native environment, it's "magnificent."
