Among off-road titles, few are as well recognized and respected as Petersen's 4-Wheel & Off-Road, which has a reputation for not pulling any punches in its testing and evaluation of off-road vehicles. This year's group of competitors for the coveted 4x4 of the Year award included the 2014 Chevrolet Silverado 1500, Ram 2500 diesel, Jeep Grand Cherokee EcoDiesel, and Range Rover Sport. When all the dust had settled, the 2014 Range Rover Sport rose to the top to clinch the title.
Although off-road traditionalists often prefer front and rear solid axles, manual hubs and transfer cases, the Range Rover Sport's formidable suite of technologies proved capable of tackling whatever the 4WOR judges threw at it.
Despite the Sport's premium price tag, a factor acknowledged by 4-Wheel & Off-Road editor-in-chief Rick Péwé, the Range Rover Sport won over the judges with its impressive off-road capability and ability to transition from challenging off-road driving to on-road driving seamlessly and comfortably.
Full coverage of Petersen's 4x4 of the Year test will be available on the magazine's web site, www.4wheeloffroad.com, and will be covered in the February 2014 issue, on newsstands December 3, 2013.
