All you doubters saying "Fiat", give it up. its a tried and true engine. Perfect for a half ton truck. If the US auto industry had not sat on its ass, like it is still doing, we may have had a diesel in a 1/2 ton long ago. But no, they were happy being left in the dust by European and Asian auto makers....That's 'Murica for ya! I am surprised that Daimler didnt push it when they aquired Chrysler, but am glad that Fiat pulled the trigger. If its good enough for Gale Banks, its good enough for me. Joe Evans-Can't "go with the Cummins" in a half ton...which is what this thread is about.

Cody, not true unless your towing 10,000 up an 8° hill for miles. Towing an average 22' boat you can expect around 15 mpg at 65 mph, which is excellent.

Ryan, my last truck was a Dodge. Terrible truck. Way to many problems to list here, but let's just say almost everything attached to the engine was replaced at least once, sometimes 2 or 3 times, and finally the engine grenaded. Never again. Love my 5.0 F150. Great engine, great truck! Zero issues, great mpg, faster than the hemi, and tows more, much nicer and bigger interior.

Kevin porter youre wrong. They help develop and stole ideas like common rail d.i.F.i. simply learned from building. Just like isuzu/gm did with the duramax

@ Caylor Teepe the full size light truck segments doesnt need a diesel option. Do you know what it takes to keep these modern 07'+ up diesel motors in shape? Exhaust diesel fluid to clean the amount of NoX leaving the engine. GM had 50 of VM motori shares and just recently sold the other half to fiat. Gm already has a 4.5l V8 300hp 600ftlbtq that they were gunna use. And gm is the 1st to bring a diesel car over in a long while. Btw nissan will be gutting their own 5.0l v8 cummins. . .
