In the day and age of the Internet, it seems stories are dominated by top 10 lists, with each outlet, think tank, and agency having its own list—often with vastly different outcomes for ostensibly the same (or similar) criteria. The issue of domestic content has been a popular and contentious one for many years, with some claiming that regardless of final manufacturing and parts sourcing, domestically built foreign-brand cars aren't truly "American," whereas some domestic-branded models built overseas should be.

But removed from the context of inflamed enthusiast passions, there is cold, statistical analysis of content and manufacturing data, which knows no brand loyalties. But topping both the Cars.com and American University's Kogod School of Business lists of the "most American" vehicle for 2014 is the Ford F-150. Both lists use the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's American Automobile Labeling Act (AALA) list as a starting point but add in their own proprietary measurements and methodology to come up with their rankings. The second most-American vehicle on the Cars.com list was the Toyota Camry, whereas the Kogod list had the Chevrolet Corvette tie the F-150 for "most-American," with General Motors' Lambda large crossover triplets—the Buick Enclave, Chevrolet Traverse, and GMC Acadia—coming in Second.

But if you're in the market for a fullsize truck and domestic content is an important factor to you, the Ford F-150 is officially your most-American choice for 2014.
