The Ford Explorer has been one of the best-selling SUVs in the U.S. for several decades. Although it's since been eclipsed by its little brother, the Escape, it's still solidly one of the best-selling midsize models, duking it out for market share with the Jeep Grand Cherokee, Toyota Highlander, and other class competitors. The 2015 Ford Explorer mixes up the color palette with the addition of three new paint options and a new appearance package on the XLT model to make it look more like the top-of-the-line Sport.
The appearance package for the 2015 Ford Explorer XLT model includes 20-inch machined alloy wheels with painted pockets, black body-side cladding and roof rails, an block-lettering “Explorer” hood badge, body-color door handles, and a Magnetic Metallic-painted grille, mirror caps, and liftgate trim. On the inside, the package includes leather-trimmed heated seats with suede inserts, contrast-stitch floor mats, an 8-inch LCD touchscreen display, dual USB ports, and an SD card reader.
The XLT appearance package will be available this summer. No pricing was given for the other 2015 Ford Explorer models or the appearance package.
The new colors for the 2015 Ford Explorer are Bronze Fire Metallic, Caribou Metallic, and Magnetic Metallic. Other upgrades include standard 18-inch wheels on the base model and a standard Class III towing package on the Explorer Sport.
