For many luxury brands, including Cadillac, SUVs and crossovers are the best-selling models in their lineup. That’s certainly true for the SRX, which sold a total of more than 56,000 units for 2013, making it the brand’s best-selling model by a long shot. Fans of U.S. manufacturing now have something to cheer about with the announcement that production of the next-generation SRX will be moving to Spring Hill, Tennessee, from Ramos Arizpe, Mexico, where the current-generation SRX has been built since 2009.

Spring Hill will also be one of six global locations where the next generation of Ecotec I-3 and I-4 engines will be built. The family will consist of up to 11 different variants, in naturally aspirated and turbocharged forms, from 1.0L to 1.5L displacement, 75 to 165 hp, and 70 to 184 lb-ft of torque. Spring Hill currently manufactures the larger-displacement 2.4L and 2.5L Ecotec I-4 engines, widely used in the GM lineup from Chevrolet Malibu and Impala, as well as a version of which will serve as the base engine in the 2015 Chevrolet Colorado and GMC Canyon midsize trucks. The 2.5L Ecotec is also built at GM’s Tonawanda engine plant, which is best-known for being the source of GM’s fifth-generation small-block V-8.

Spring Hill is also one of three plants where the popular Chevrolet Equinox midsize crossover is built. The Equinox, and its GMC Terrain sibling, are also built at the Ingersoll and Oshawa, Ontario, plants in Canada.
