Polar vortex beware, as the redesigned 2015 Ford F-150 will be available with a snow plow prep option when it goes on sale by the end of this year. Ford says the 2015 F-150 is the first light-duty pickup with a manufacturer-installed snow plow prep package.
The snow plow prep option is available on all cab configurations (Regular, SuperCab, and SuperCrew), though the F-150 models must be XL, XLT, or Lariat trims equipped with four-wheel drive and the 5.0-liter V-8 engine. Ford rates the maximum weight for the light-duty plow at over 450 pounds.
While in use, the snow plow mode provides dedicated power to the plow by temporarily shutting off nonessential accessories. The snow plow prep package does not include the plow or installation, which must be done by a Ford Qualified Vehicle Modifier.
“By using more high-strength steel in its frame and advanced materials in the body, we’ve made the [2015 F-150] up to 700 pounds lighter,” said Ford F-150 marketing manager Eric Peterson in a release. “This leads to more capability and better handling, which is exactly what you’d want for plowing. Adding a snow plow prep kit to our lineup helps ensure our customers have even more tools at their disposal to get the job done.”
Although pricing hasn’t been set for the plow prep option, it should be released closer to when the 2015 F-150 pickup goes on sale near the end of 2014.
