Since the announcement that the next-generation Titan would get the option of a Cummins V-8 last August, followed shortly thereafter by the Frontier Diesel Runner Concept a few months ago in February, anticipation has been running high for updates to Nissan's truck lineup. Naturally, the association with Cummins has stoked truck and diesel enthusiasts' interest, but a major update to either the Frontier or Titan aside from a diesel option would be major news, with both trucks nearing a decade without a major overhaul. Based on a sheet-draped photo on Instagram, it looks like we may not have to wait much longer.

With no other reference points for scale, it's tough to determine whether the mystery Nissan truck is the new Frontier or the new Titan. Either way, it's clear it's receiving more contemporary styling cues, including LED running lights. If the new truck is the Frontier, which seems to be the consensus, it is coming at an opportune time in the midsize segment, with the all-new 2015 Chevrolet Colorado and GMC Canyon about to roll into showrooms in the fall and diesel models following for the 2016 model year.

If a Cummins powertrain option is offered from launch, Nissan could potentially beat GM to market with a midsize diesel by nearly a year, suddenly making the midsize pickup market the most interesting segment in the truck market. Toyota Tacoma, your turn…and check.
