Scheid Diesel Extravaganza
A reflective look at the diesel scene’s biggest event.
We're not sure exactly when the term "granddaddy" was first used as a way of endearingly referring to events with long histories. For example, the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, California, is considered the granddaddy of all college football bowl games, the same way the Daytona 500 reigns as the patriarch of NASCAR stock-car racing.
While we may never really know why, the bottom line is, premiere events for a particular organization or hobby typically are given the esteemed status. Exactly when they become theoretic grandparents doesn't matter, either. They're just the big ones, plain and simple.
Now in its 24th year, Scheid Diesel Extravaganza definitely is the granddaddy of all diesel shows, and on August 28 and 29, 2020 (yes, the event is actually happening on its originally scheduled dates), Dan Scheid and his group are moving SDX 2020 down the highway a bit—from the event's former home in Terre Haute, Indiana, to Wagler Motorsports Park in Lyons.
Believe us when we tell you, there's a lot to see and experience at Scheid Diesel Extravaganza. It is two days of everything from show-and-shine, dyno shootouts, and a huge manufacturers' midway, to Lucas Oil Pro Pulling League truck and tractor sled-pull competition and Outlaw Diesel Super Series drag racing.
The new venue is plenty spacious, can support everything the big show offers, and we're confident the transition from Wabash County Fairgrounds will be seamless. So, get ready to uphold tradition or start a new one, by traveling to Wagler Motorsports Park for SDX.
As we approach the 2020 edition of the long-time diesel festival, here are a few articles about "Scheid's" from the Diesel Power archives, with photos and great history to help get you excited for the big weekend!
