History of the Toyota Truck in America

A list of Toyota Truck Models with significant milestones.

In a world where Jeeps and Jeep-inspired 4x4s seem to dominate the off-road scene, Toyota mini-trucks cannot be ignored. With a fan base as loyal as any vehicular fan base, the Toyota truck has been everywhere and done everything that more focused and less utilitarian vehicles have done. The reliability, efficiency, and simplicity of the Toyota trucks are undeniable, etching a permanent mark on the off-road world in the U.S. and globally. Since 1968, Toyota trucks have been sold in the U.S., and while the first several years—until 1979—were only available from Toyota as a 2WD truck several were converted to 4wd by enterprising owners. After 1979 and the introduction of the first factory 4x4 pickup in the U.S., nothing could stop the momentum that was the Toyota mini and later mid-sized 4x4 trucks.
