Those big boxy campers may soon be a thing of the past, and we may soon see more families packed in tear-drop-shaped campers hitting the roadways for summer vacation.

It may seem like a far-fetched idea, but design studio NAU has revealed an innovative streamlined, zero-local-emission Ecco Camper concept. The concept resembles anything but a camper: a teardrop, an egg, and an accordion.
The oddly shaped camper's exterior is made up of aluminum and glass and rides low to the ground for improved aerodynamics. Once it's time to set up camp, a cap on top of the camper opens upward and expands interior space, giving a whole family of five all the space they need while they gaze the stars at night with the transparent panels atop that create an observatory. Solar panels are also integrated in the expandable roof to supplement power supply, but the camper can also be charged through a standard 240 V outlet.

Like all other campers, foldable beds, a toilet and private rear access complete the ultimate Earth-friendly camper. If we do see one of these bounding down the roads in our lifetime, let's hope it will be around the same price as today's gas-or-diesel-powered motor homes.
