Caught! 2014 Jeep Liberty Turbo
The last time we spied a next-generation Jeep test vehicle, it was merely a hacked-up Alfa with 2-3 extra inches of ride height. This time, we saw a new Jeep Liberty prototype, and you can clearly see the iconic seven-slot grille. In addition to the visible Jeep grille, we can see some off-road-ready Yokohama Geolandar AT-S tires and some pretty beefy-looking rear suspension parts. But we found the ride height of this Jeep test car to be the most impressive part.
It looks as though turbocharging will find its way into Jeep's lineup with this latest Liberty. Along with what might be peeks at an intercooler and related plumbing, there is a yellow sticker over the fuel door that says "Premium." Both would tend to suggest a turbo four is under the hood. Whether that means one of Fiat's turbo four-bangers, or the Chrysler Tigershark, remains to be seen. Another engine may be a smaller version of the 3.6-liter Pentastar V-6, possibly a 3.2-liter-displacement engine. We hear this new Jeep will ride on a modified version of Fiat's CUSW platform, and should be offered in front-drive and all-wheel-drive variants. Watch for production to start at the Toledo, Ohio, plant in May 2013.
Sorry Folks, we can't show you the full images at the moment but you can see it in our upcoming MAY/June 2012 issue, set to hit news stands on May 29, 2012.
