Caught! 550-hp 2015 Range Rover Sport RS
Range Rover's Middleweight Gets Hottest Blown V-8
Now that Jaguar and Land Rover share a corporate parts bin, there is some positive cross-pollination taking place between two of Britain's most popular and prestigious automotive brands. Among the positive developments is the availability of the top-spec 550-hp, 5.0-liter supercharged V-8 from the Jaguar R-series models to Land Rover. Appropriately enough, the first recipient of the engine looks like it will be the Range Rover Sport with a new RS model.
The "regular" Range Rover Sport RS is no slow-poke, with a 0-60 time of less than 5 seconds, but expect the RS to shave a tenth or two off that time. The biggest external giveaway to the hottest Range Rover Sport are the quad exhaust tips. The multispoke finned wheels seen on this prototype may or may not be production-intent, but expect the RS to get more aggressive rolling stock to differentiate it from its more pedestrian brethren.
Land Rover seems to be taunting us with the unusual wrap on this tester, showing the sport splashing through water and driving on the road, rather than the usual psychedelic checkerboard pattern. Expect the RS to probably start at or near the six-figure mark. The current topline Range Rover Sport Autobiography starts at $93,295.
