Caught! 2013 Ford Transit
In a move to increase globalization, Ford will replace the aging E-Series with the next-generation Ford Transit. While the current Ford E-Series has had design refreshes in the recent past, it's gone largely unchanged since the early 1990s. Its replacement is finally on the way. Here it is, undergoing testing in the Alps. The Transit is no stranger to Europeans, having been used to haul cargo there since the early 1950s. However, one difference we'll likely see in the U.S. versions is with the engines. In Europe, the Transit is offered with four- and five-cylinder diesels and a four-cylinder gasoline model. While it's too early to say which engines we'll get, the EcoBoost V-6, used in the F-150, and maybe even a V-8 could find their way into the U.S.-spec Transit. We'd also expect the U.S. Transit to be offered in many different body configurations and possibly a few wheelbase lengths. Watch for production of the Transit to start in the first half of 2013 at Ford's Avon Lake, Ohio, plant.
