2013 Nissan Titan Spotted Testing - Powertrain Mule or Mild Refresh?

Minor Exterior Changes for 2013 Model, Bigger Changes Expected Later

Jun 18, 2012
Our friends at Automobile Magazine have spotted a mildly-disguised Nissan Titan testing on Michigan highways. We have to wonder why Nissan bothered with camo at all, considering that the zigzag zebra cladding covers the emblem on the front grille and rear tailgate and nothing more. We can't imagine Nissan has changed its trademark logo, so perhaps this is just standard operating procedure for models still undergoing testing.
Around back, the changes are more apparent, but still relatively minor. The tailgate release handle appears to be designed to house a rearview camera, bearing a flared-out design similar to that of the Ford F-150. Aside from these minor tweaks, the Titan's signature styling cues remain, most notably its "strut" grille design, and twin front tow hooks. Unfortunately, our spy shooters were not able to snap any shots of the interior, which has remained nearly unchanged since its introduction in 2004.

While all its other fullsize half-ton rivals offer an entry-level V-6 model, the Titan continues to soldier along with the 5.6-liter, 317-hp Endurance V-8 and five-speed automatic transmission as the only powertrain combination. There's a possibility the 4.0-liter V-6 offered in lighter-duty versions of the new NV-series vans could appear for 2013 as an entry-level mill, but we'll have to wait and see when the official specs on the 2013 model are released. An all-new Titan is expected sometime in 2014.
