Spied! 2014 Porsche Macan in Production Sheetmetal
Mini-Cayenne Gets Fast Roofline, Wide Stance
Once again, we've got shots of the upcoming Porsche Macan compact SUV undergoing cold-weather testing almost completely un-cladded, indicating its official introduction is imminent. Like the Range Rover Evoque, the Macan has a faster roofline and rear hatch slope than its bigger sibling -- in the case of the Macan, that's the Cayenne -- but otherwise shows a strong family resemblance, with the traditional Porsche ovoid headlamp clusters and sloping hood.
The Macan's powertrain options are expected to be similar to those offered on the Audi Q5, but we expect them to be tuned for a little extra power. A hybrid model may be offered, as well as a diesel, with Audi announcing the availability of the 3.0-liter TDI V-6 for the Q5 at the 2012 Los Angeles show. The Macan is a also prime candidate to get a hot version of the VW Group's supercharged 3.0-liter V-6, which makes 349 hp in the recently-announced U.S.-spec SQ5.
Though Porsche remains mum on an arrival date, the upcoming Geneva and New York auto shows could serve as the coming out party for Porsche's compact SUV, though the Germans could hold out until the Frankfurt show in the fall and debut the new 'ute on their home turf.
