2014 Dodge Durango Spied!

Refresh for Dodge's Three-Row Hauler Debunk Rumors of Demise

Mar 19, 2013
News and rumors about product lineups, models, and strategy changes sometimes come so quickly out of Auburn Hills, it's hard to keep up. The prevailing belief, now that the three main Chrysler brands are under one roof in most dealerships, is that Jeep would be SUVs, Dodge would be "exciting" cars, and Chrysler would be more luxurious, premium cars. Widely believed to be a part of that plan was the migration of the Dodge Durango to the Jeep lineup in the form of a revived Grand Wagoneer.

However, these latest photos of a freshened 2014 Dodge Durango show rumors of its death sentence may be greatly exaggerated. Investing this level of money and effort into an outgoing product doesn't make much sense, unless it's being done for overall supplier logistics consolidation.

So what does it look like the new model year will bring for the Durango? Minor exterior changes in the form of a slightly different (though still familiar) cross-hatch grille, as well as a slight tweak to the taillight design.
The bigger changes seem to be happening on the inside, where we can clearly see a new steering wheel design, along with what look to be paddle shifters. Like the 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee, it looks like the Durango may adopt the eight-speed automatic across the line. However, unlike the Jeep, the Durango is not likely to get the 3.0-liter VM Motori turbodiesel as an option, with the 3.6-liter Pentastar and 5.7-liter Hemi continuing to serve as the mainstay engines.

So it now looks like there's a good chance the Durango and the forthcoming Grand Wagoneer could co-exist in Chrysler showrooms.
