Porsche's upcoming 2014 Cajun is set to be a mini-Cayenne. The Porsche Cajun is supposed to supplement its Cayenne big brother in the lineup - providing the perfect Porsche for those who need Cayenne versatility, but on a smaller scale. If a report by Auto Car is to be believed, Porsche is throwing some of that versatility out the door. Auto Car reports to have come across official Porsche renderings that if real, would confirm that the Cajun will now come in both five and three-door forms. This would allow it to better compete with the new Land Rover Range Rover Evoque.
At first glance, not much is new about this Porsche Cajun rendering. As we've previously reported, that unlike the Audi Q5 that it's based off of, the upcoming Cajun will be produced in a three and five-door model. This rendering from Auto Car confirms our suspicions about the new baby-Cayenne. There's some good reasoning behind Porsche creating a three-door model. For starters, one of the Cajun's main rivals will be the new Range Rover Evoque. The Evoque is available as a practical five-door, and also as a sporty little three-door. A three-door Cajun would do much to give the Cajun a more sporty edge.
The Cajun coupe looks a bit sportier than the five-door renderings that we've previously seen. While not an out-right copy of the epic 959, the Cajun coupe sports a few design influences from the 959. For starters, the Cajun three-door looks to feature a similar rounded front end to the 959. The Cajun also looks to have a raised suspension like the 959. With an Audi-based Quattro all-wheel drive system, and Audi-sourced I-4 and V-6 engines, Porsche could potentially take the Cajun rallying. Porsche has never been a company to shy away from motorsports and if Mini could do it with the Countryman, why can't Porsche with a sporty Cajun coupe?
According to Auto Car, Porsche's Cajun will be further distinguished from the Audi Q5 by an interior tailored towards upscale luxury. An upscale interior would not only distinguish the Cajun from the Q5, but it would also allow it to compete tit-for-tat with the Evoque, which features one of the best interiors in its class. It's also growing more apparent that the 2014 Cajun will likely share much of its new interior with the next Boxster and Cayman, as well as with the new baby Porsche 550 roadster. We're expecting the new Cajun to debut in five-door form in 2014, with the three-door debuting a year later in 2015.
