We caught a group of 2012 Dodge Durango prototypes -- rumored to be renamed Magnum -- wearing only camouflage tape. This is one of the first shots of the upcoming crossover without black cladding, and in comparison with other vehicles and people in the photos, it looks like the new Durango is not quite as long as the current model.
Code-named WD, the Durango will share a unibody chassis with the 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee and the upcoming Mercedes-Benz M-Class. Not all things will be equal as we expect the Benz to sport higher-end running gear than its Chrysler brothers. Fiat may also launch a vehicle on this chassis sometime in 2012-2013. But one thing you won't see on this chassis is a Chrysler Aspen variant.
Powertrains for the Dodge should be identical to the 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee's, with the next-gen, Pentastar 3.6-liter V-6 and the 5.7-liter Hemi V-8 on tap. A Fiat-sourced diesel motor, as well as a dual clutch transmission, may find its way into the Dodge. This new Dodge CUV should start production in November 2010 at the Jefferson North Assembly Plant in Detroit, Michigan.
We can't show you the full photos online, but you can see them in the upcoming September/October 2010 due on stands August 3rd, 2010
