We admit to being a little partial to the custom truck scene in Southern California and Texas, but we're well aware many of you use your trucks for more than just looking good in a parking lot on the weekends. Towing, hauling, and hunting are a few things we ask of our daily drivers, and for this story, we turn a completely stock '09 Silverado 4x4 into a trail-ready hunting machine for around $4,400. That sum may look imposing until you realize we added functionality, more power, better looks, improved safety, and each of the installs could be done in your driveway over a two-day weekend. With hunting season over and your truck ready for a makeover, we've collected a great group of bolt-ons that will make your daily driver more capable than ever.
Teaming with 4Wheel Parts in Nashville, Tennessee, to handle the installation of the parts while we snapped the pics, our technicians D.J. and Arthur had our Silverado Z71 ready for the mud in less than 8 hours. Adding rugged looks and everyday functionality, we bolted on Go Rhino! Dominator III one-piece side steps and winch bumper grilleguard, both in black powdercoat. Lighting up those dark trails, Anzo 7-inch Slimline off-road lights were bolted to the grilleguard, as were 4-inch Anzo LED high-intensity driving lights. Giving the Z71 some extra inches in height, a simple Skyjacker 2-inch strut spacer was installed up front and new Skyjacker shocks damp the rear. Changing the attitude of the Chevy drastically, we ordered a set of 20x9-inch Black Rhino Keyhole wheels from Discount Tire Direct. The Keyhole wheels came mounted inside Cooper's latest off-road tire available only through Discount Tire Direct, the Discoverer ATP sized 275/60R20 (33 inches tall). Helping turn those larger wheels and tires, a Pro5R air intake and throttle-body spacer from aFe were installed onto the 5.3L, in addition to aFe's new performance tuner, the Scorcher. These easy-to-install parts made a huge difference on our Chevy truck, and we can't wait to go hit a back road and have some fun. To see how we did it, check out the photos and give the companies a call.

First up, the plastic beauty cover was pulled free and the factory air intake hose was removed with a 5/16-inch nut driver.
