Truck Frame Rust Removal And Prevention
Stop Rust Forever With Chemical Weapons
It's been more than a year since we first exposed our '97 Ford F-350's rust problem and began feverishly trying to solve it. We got started by treating the frame with rust converter ("Busting Rust," May '09) and were recently forced to replace our rear leaf springs, shackles, and spring hangers due to them rotting away. For round two of our rust treatment, we got out the creeper and inspected the frame, axles, and driveshafts for damage. Surprisingly, we discovered that more than 90 percent of the rust had stopped dead in its tracks. We're now convinced that our Ford's underbody can be salvaged and made to last. With the help of Rust-Oleum, this time we were able to perform the same weekend task, and with just $130 worth of materials. If you want to keep your aging truck's foundation shipshape, we recommend setting aside some time once a year to perform this cheap task. You won't regret the outcome.
