Product Profile: the Absorber, GearBox, Heat Reduction Hood, and More!

Parts That Can Make a Difference

Aug 18, 2016
Clean and Dry
Thanks to its soft surface and incredible drying power, the Absorber is one of the best tools a truck owner can have in his detail kit. The lint-free drying towel is also gentle on your truck’s paint, and it’s wax- and sealant-safe. Clean Tools, which makes the Absorber, says it’ll absorb 50 percent more water than comparable towels or chamois cloths, making for quick work. When it’s saturated with water, it’s easy to just wring it out and start fresh, and it’s machine-washable.

Premier Storage, Plus Style
It happens to the best of us: The garage, once a perfectly organized system of automotive products, lawn tools, and household etceterini, becomes a complete mess within weeks. The Gladiator Garageworks Premier Series Tall GearBox can help. At 5 feet tall, it features three shelves and two fullsize locking doors for safe storage of automotive chemicals, detailing equipment, tools, and other products commonly seen in any workshop. It even looks cool!

Heat Exhaustion
Off-roading is great fun, but it can be tough on a truck. Many off-roaders don’t expect the high underhood temperatures that come from slow, difficult trail work, but American Expedition Vehicles has a solution in the form of the Heat Reduction Hood for the ’10-to-present Ram Heavy Duty. Stamped from tough galvanized steel, the hood features two strategically placed vents to slough off hot air, while also keeping water away from sensitive underhood electronics. The hood is also a good match for heavy towing situations, and it’s e-coat primed for corrosion protection and a good finish.

Max Velocity
With bigger turbochargers, injectors, and power demands comes a need for more fuel, which is where the Fuelab Velocity In-Line High Performance Lift Pump comes in. Designed for Chevrolet and GMC Duramax pickups from ’01 to ’10, the Velocity supplies the increased fuel demands of engines with a powerful, adaptable replacement for original lift pumps. Available in the 100 Series and 200 Series (both named for their GPH ratings), the Velocity features a poppet valve for stable fuel pressure, and an included air separation/water filtration system ensures only safe diesel reaches the engine.

Brand-New Performance, Remanufactured Price
Building a truck on a budget is tough, leading some owners to select substandard remanufactured or used parts. Sinister Diesel has the antidote to inferior parts with the Powerstroke Injector. Designed to fit ’03 to ’07 Ford trucks fit with the Power Stroke diesel engine, Sinister’s injector features all-new parts from the nozzle to the connector, built on a remanufactured body to save money. The all-new parts provide better response and cold starting, and the company says they work well on both stock and tuned trucks.

Custom Touch
American Force Wheels has always been a good place to start for people who want unique rolling stock for their trucks, but the company is taking it to the next level by offering custom engraving limited only by the customer’s imagination. Tribal patterns, polka dots, scrolling, and other designs are available in four-, five-, six-, and eight-lug applications (including this “Recoil” wheel), meaning your truck and your other vehicles can get matching designs.

Wobbly Wheels
Ram Heavy Duty pickups (and many lifted trucks) are notorious for steering wheel wobble that can make highway driving uncomfortable and dangerous. But since the problem is well known, many companies provide solutions, including BD Diesel. The latest application of its “Wobble Stopper” steering box stabilizer is for the ’03 to ’08 Ram Heavy Duty 4x4 with the Borgeson steering box. The brace eliminates flexing at the point where the steering box attaches to the frame, providing better steering feel and sturdy performance.

Gimme a Brake
For some gearheads, not much is cooler than a slick set of red calipers peeking out from behind the wheels. Wilwood Disc Brakes combines that high-performance style with legitimate braking credentials with its TX6R brake system for ’05 to ’12 Ford F-Series Super Duty 4x4 trucks. Wilwood originally designed elements of TX6R for tactical, armored, and extreme-duty situations, which means your eight-lug’s towing, racing, and off-road needs should be small potatoes for the big-brake kit. Plus, it’s got those red-painted calipers…
