Photo 4/5 | project Outcast Part 4 stock Ficm | In order to turn a stock, 48-volt FICM into this 58-volt version from Elite Diesel, the driver side of the FICM gets modified. Essentially, the 12-volt signal sent to the FICM gets amplified to 58 volts instead of 48 volts. This amplified voltage offers a stronger magnetic force between the coils that open and close the spool valve within the injector. Because the spool valve allows oil to enter the injector from the high-pressure oil rail, its ability to open and close faster provides an advance in timing.
Photo 5/5 | project Outcast Part 4 stage 1 Ficm | Elite’s Stage 1 FICM is its 58-volt unit, reprogrammed to increase pulse width (injector on time, or duration) and timing beyond what the 58-volt FICM does. The most noticeable gain when driving with the Stage 1 FICM installed was the snappier throttle it provided. While cruising, passing power was effortless, requiring much less pedal input.
