The way a trailer is loaded can have a big impact on trailer stability and driver safety. Now General Motors has introduced Electronic Trailer Sway Control technology to keep a trailer from swaying and affecting control of the lead vehicle. According to GM, loading too heavily in the rear of the trailer can cause it to sway, an effect called “the tail wagging the dog.” This motion can cause drivers to lose control and endangering themselves and others on the road. During the IAA motor show in Frankfurt, Porsche plans to unveil the Cayenne GTS – the company’s first SUV to include its electronically controlled damping system with steel springs. The sports SUV includes a 4.8 liter engine with direct gasoline fuel injection and consumes 13.9 liters per 100 kilometers (a figure in accordance with EU standards). The Cayenne GTS can also achieve the fastest acceleration rate among its SUV counterparts. The vehicle can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 6.1 seconds 

A new program called "Spot the Tot" has been created to raise awareness about child safety and reduce fatalities resulting from automobile accidents. The program is run by Safe Kids Worldwide and General Motors and is designed to educate parents about child safety measures needed both in and around the car. 

The Coalition to Salute America's Heroes, in conjunction with singer LeAnn Rimes, is working to give away modified cars to Iraq war veterans. The cars are equipped with Sit N’ Lift, a power seat designed to assist individuals to get in and out of their vehicles. General Motors reports more than 26,000 soldiers have been wounded since the start of the Iraq war and specialty-equipped vehicles can aid in their mobility.
