The 2009 Toyota 4Runner will see a new Trail Edition package available only for its SR5 trim with V-6 and 4WD. The package enhances off-road capability with the addition of the following off-road components: a locking rear differential, Bilstein shock absorbers, Active Traction Control (A-TRAC), and unique 16-in. alloy wheels with 265/70R16 tires. The cosmetic changes that accompany the Trail Edition package are a color-keyed grille, door handles, rear license plate garnish, "Trail Edition" badging, and black tubular side steps with black tubular roof rack. The Trail Edition package will be available with three exterior colors: Titanium Metallic, Natural White, and Shadow Mica. Interior add-ons are new seats covered with water-resistant material and charcoal fabric bolsters and a steering wheel with integrated controls for the unique AM/FM/CD audio system with six speakers and a detachable TomTom GPS unit. The audio system offers WMA/MP3 CD capability along with satellite radio capability, Bluetooth, and iPod connectivity.
The Toyota 4Runner is once again offered with a choice of a 236-hp V-6 or 260-hp V-8 engine with either 2WD or 4WD. A five-speed automatic transmission comes standard with every 4Runner. Three trims are still available for the 4Runner: the SR5, the Sport Edition with enhanced handling and a distinct appearance, and the Limited trim with upgraded comfort amenities.
