What's New for 2009
The G-Class turns 30 this year, and new for 2009 will be a three-bar front grille and chrome grille guard. The G550 will replace the G500, which will get a new 382-hp V-8 engine featuring the latest in DOHC variable-valve-timing engine technology. The G550 will ride on new 18-in. five-twin-spoke alloy wheels.
At the top of the G-Class lineup sits the G55 AMG, which gets a power bump up to 500-hp and new 19-in. AMG 5-spoke wheels. Separating the AMG model from the G550 is exclusive chrome trim and "V8 Kompressor" badging. The G55 AMG will feature a charcoal Nappa leather interior, AMG gauges, and natural maple wood trim. A new-for-2009 COMAND system with a large color display screen will join the standard 610-watt digital Harmon Kardon Logic7 sound system.
Since it is the 30th birthday of the G-Class, Mercedes will release two special editions to commemorate the stoic truck -- the EDITION30 and the EDITION30.PUR.
