From The Inside Out

Mar 1, 2003
In order to keep mini-truck enthusiasts up to date on the myriad things happening in our sport from month to month on an inside angle, we present Inside Out. This forum is directly aimed at keeping our readers informed about items pertaining to the aftermarket as well as providing a vital link to what's happening at World Mini Truckin' Headquarters. This way, you'll know a little more of what's happening in our sport from an angle seldom seen.

Project Desert Dragger Debuts
At the 2003 SEMA show in Las Vegas, our current project, a Nissan Desert Runner that's been laid out on 18s and 20s, debuted. A labor of love by any measure of the phrase, your MT staff and those who have committed to helping with the project have spent countless hours building the truck. Despite setbacks that would have disabled even the stoutest magazine staffs, our group forged ahead and got the truck to Vegas and back. For complete coverage of the SEMA show, check out page 68 and read to your heart's content. For further information on Project Desert Dragger, keep your eyes peeled on Mini Truckin' magazine; we're not done with this baby yet!

Odelay Taco?
Mini-truckers have been calling Toyota's newest mini-truck by the loving new name "Taco" for about as long as the truck has been available for sale to the public. Recently, Toyota announced that the Toyota Tacoma platform would be built in Tijuana after spending nearly $140 million on that facility. Plans are to begin building the trucks there by 2005. When you buy a Japanese truck that's built in Japan, you expect strange things, but for cryin' out loud, what's next?

Another Route?
Looking at the new Isuzu concept, we've been trying to draw some conclusions as to just what the Chevy Colorado will look like. If anyone from GM is reading this, come on already! We're dying for a better look at the new Colorado. If we have to run photos of other models of trucks, maybe the huddling masses won't end up running en masse to buy the new Colorado. Next thing you know, they'll be discontinuing the Bow Tie emblem...yeah right! Like it or not, we're stuck with the waiting game until GM decides to unveil that real deal. Who knew that Nissans had this large a following?
