Blessings And Beatings - Passion - Number 7
Skill, talent, and even creativity are all keys to building an out-of-this-world truck, but one thing is even more important - passion. Passion can’t be overlooked in the world of custom trucks; without passion, most truck projects would never get finished and our scene wouldn’t be turning out quality builds over and over. Passion perseveres when money gets tight, when life gets in the way, and when people begin to doubt you. No one can steal your desire to bring to life what is in your head, something with character, and then create something truly unique. Trophies are nice, but knowing that your blood, sweat, and even tears are in a rolling work of art that is unlike any other is the real reason why we do what we do. It’s why we dress the way we do, listen to the kind of music we do, and drive what we drive. Our trucks are an extension of who we are.
This issue provides great proof for that statement. Our cover truck is stunning and despite the quality of the build, owner/builder Jake McKiddie drives it like he stole it. Seeing that flamed Silverado go through a stoplight in a sideways burnout made us shake our heads and applaud at the same time. Jake’s passion is overtly evident. Robert Robinson was quick to show off his slammed F-150’s supercharged power at our photo shoot when he aired out the Ford and lit up the tires. No one can question his passion. Looking at Mark Espino’s C10 and Bruce Tschida’s F-150, both of those trucks are driven often and hammered on when the feeling arises. That wouldn’t be the case if their passion wasn’t present.
What are you into? Slammed trucks with big wheels, or lifted rigs with mud-terrains, perhaps you like to make your truck handle and go fast, whatever it is, your truck would be factory stock if you didn’t share in our passion for customizing trucks. Before I even bought my last project truck, I already had lights, wheels/tires, and performance parts waiting in my garage to be bolted on. I can’t help it--it’s the way I’m wired.
We don’t look at Truckin’ magazine as a job, we look at it as a privilege and part of that responsibility comes expressing our passion through project trucks, events, and tech articles. The remainder of 2011 will really help showcase our enthusiasm, as we’ll be making some big changes and big improvements to your favorite truck magazine. Be on the lookout for little tweaks as we gather momentum for an overhaul that will help revive and boost your passion for all things custom trucks.
