Blessings And Beatings - Perfection
"Ivan’s truck does a little bit of everything, and we’re excited to see more of these custom truck mash-ups."
Perfection is debatable. Whether we’re talking about a custom truck, a hot woman, or sports, there is always one opinion that will vary once the final votes are tallied. The pursuit of perfection, however, is a quality we can all agree is admirable and worth chasing down. You see it all the time with wheels, suspensions, paint, engines, and interiors. Just because it’s good, doesn’t mean it’s great, and for some of us, until we can say the end result is our best, it will never be good enough. I think of my buddy Bill Carlton and his crazy Kodiak that was painted no less than three times because he wanted to make it better every time—that’s just craziness. Or what about Tim Donelson and his “Color Blind” Silverado was completely made over and looks like a whole new truck? I think back to our ’09 Dodge Ram project and how it will look different at this year’s SEMA show despite nothing being wrong with it—we just wanted something new. Blame it on this ADD-filled world we live in that forces us to have an attention span of a gnat, but after spending so much time and money on a project, you’re almost to the point of switching it up already.
Striving to have the best truck possible, no matter the level (daily driver, weekend cruiser, or full-fledged show truck), we all try to incorporate new ideas and add our own personality. This month’s cover truck owner, Ivan Alaniz, is one of those guys who is never satisfied. As you can see in this photo, the truck used to be all green, and before it was green it was gray. See where I’m going with this? Some of us are infected with the disease of “newness,” and once the new wears off, it’s time to change it up. Rumor has it he’s completely redoing the truck in a classy two-tone paint scheme, new interior, and bigger engine. We can’t wait to see what he and his brother Nico come up with next.
Speaking of changing things up, I hope you’ve noticed a change in the winds at Truckin’. We’re seeing more and more custom trucks with high-horsepower engines that do more than just sit still at truck shows and get wiped down. Take Ivan’s truck for example, he drives his truck all the time, takes it to the dragstrip where he sprays it with nitrous, but then he cleans it up for truck shows and still drives home with trophies. It does a little bit of everything, and we’re excited to see more of these custom truck mash-ups. We’re always looking to showcase the best trucks of all types each and every month, so send us photos of your pride and joy to email@example.com, and we’ll look over every submission.
