Project New Guy Gets Hit

It’s refreshing to see a teenager get off his skateboard and help an elderly man cross the street, or a group of what I thought to be hoodlums help a pregnant woman lift some heavy articles into her car at the grocery store. Just when I thought there was still a sense of good left in the world, it happened.
After arriving home from a long day at work, I pulled into my apartment complex and saw a huge dent in the tailgate of Project New Guy left by someone backing up a little too far. Being the rational, levelheaded person that I am, I grabbed my baseball bat and walked around the complex looking for the offending vehicle.
After cooling off a bit, and failing to find the car, I dug into my CSI knowledge and did some forensic investigation. The vehicle was white, gray, or silver in color and had a bumper with an odd shape that left four distinctive marks on my tailgate. I also noticed the paint on my truck was completely fine, so there probably wouldn’t be any marks on the other vehicle. With that information in mind, I retrieved my baseball bat and continued looking.
After a couple of days, I finally found the vehicle. A silver Nissan Versa, backed into the bushes on the other side of the complex was trying to hide the fact that they had backed into my truck. Well, of course, when I confronted the owner, she claimed that she didn’t do it and that the damage had been there, but after showing her that the damage matches up like a puzzle piece, she offered to pay for the damage.
The moral of the story: back into Project New Guy and I will find you! If you have any stories of scumbags damaging your pride and joy, send them to me at max.matthewson@sorc.com.
