Kyle "Pickle" Garza has put another Drag For Diabetes Show behind him and this one was another success.
The weather could not have been better for a Texas show and the Moody Gardens was a great location for the show. The background of the glass pyramids, the water, and an old paddleboat just created an air of relaxation. It was nice to walk around and talk with everyone about their rides, check out some new ones, or some additional work done to others.
The show was for a great cause, as well. The show generates money and donations from the proceeds are made to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation and the Aplastic Anemia and MDS International Foundation. It has been refreshing to see more and more shows popping up or lasting a good while and do so to donate to special causes or charities to help others.
Show attendance for such a beautiful weekend was, as expected in a beach town, was great. There were more than 1000 spectators and over 350 vehicle entries which made the staff’s job of picking top 100 and best of’s pretty difficult. Vehicles came from as far as California, Mississippi, Oklahoma, and Florida and several states in between.
Steven Harris' Carizzma won Best of Show and a "Superfecta" award, which was decided by several show promoters for his truck’s dominance at show’s it attended. David Gosnell won Best Truck with his orange C-10 with it’s matching beach cruiser in the bed and best car went to an old charger running a Viper drive train. John from B2D won best under construction with his bodied H2. As I said, there was some very nice stuff to see at this show.
There were also friendly competitions such as tug-o-war, milk chugging, pickle eating, and a burnout competition. Xposed creations, with an all girl team, won the tug-o-war. Drag For Diabetes was a great show at a great location thrown for a great cause. If you have time and can make it to Galveston next year, get there. You will take home good memories of a show with a family atmosphere everyone can enjoy.
